I went to the movies to see Sherlock Holmes a while back, figured I should probably tell you a little about it 🙂
It is an action filled movie, not quiet what you might expect if you have seen or read anything about Sherlock Holmes previously.
We meet Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.) and his companion Dr. Watson (Jude Law) when they are about to close up a case, catching an occult serial killer, Lord Blackwood (Mark Strong).
They catch up with Blackwood just in time to save his intended victim from being killed as a scarification.
Lord Blackwood is sentenced to death by hanging, and his death sentence is carried out, or is it really?
Lord Blackwood is buried in the family mausoleum, from which he later escapes. Blackwood had used his magical powers of deception to escape his hanging, as seemingly dead.
The policemen that are present at investigating the mausoleum to try and figure out how he escaped are all scared of his black magic. Sherlock Holmes how ever does not believe in such thing and starts seeking the scientific explanation to the mystery.
Dr. Watson was the doctor overseeing the hanging, and the one who pronounced Blackwood as dead. Watson questions his own judgment, wondering how he could have been mistaken.
Sherlock and Dr. Watson once again goes to hunt for Lord Blackwood, to stop Blackwood and his brotherhood from succeeding with their plan for world domination.
If you expect to see a Sherlock Holmes that quietly smokes his pipe and use his mind alone to solve the case, you will get disappointed though, as this movie doesn’t present Sherlock that way.
He is presented as a hard man that engages himself in fighting, and who enjoys drinking a little bit to much. At times he even seem a bit insane. Sherlock does show a brilliant mind as well though, putting the pieces of the puzzle together bit by bit.
If you however keep an open mind about how Sherlock is supposed to be, you will probably enjoy the movie for what it is, an action filled movie. I did enjoy watching it, it was well played and the story, although unrealistic at times, is rather good. There’s not many dull moments in the movie.
